Luis Pato Vinha das Valadas Pé Franco 2017, 75cl

The Pato family has been producing wine at Quinta do Ribeirinho since at least the 19th century. XVIII. João Pato began bottling wine from his vineyards in 1970, becoming the first producer/bottler in the Bairrada region after its demarcation.

His son Luís Pato inherited his non-conformist and pioneering spirit, and in 1980 he produced his first wine, a single-varietal Baga wine of exceptional quality and absolute rarity, which is today sought after by connoisseurs as a treasure. In 1985 he started two revolutions in Bairrada: he made red wine from stemmed grapes and aged the wine in new French oak barrels. In 1988, he planted Baga in "free foot" (non-grafted vines) to understand the pre-phylloxera wines and produced the first Vinhas Velhas in the country.

In 1990 he participated for the first time as a jury in the International Wine Challenge, a competition that serves as a wine tasting school and a guide in the way of looking at and getting to know wines and the volatility of tastes around the world. In the 60 hectares of vineyard, the grape varieties Baga, Touriga Nacional and Tinto Cão are planted in the red varieties, and the varieties Maria Gomes, Bical, Cercial da Bairrada and Sercialinho in the white varieties.
